OA’s 2nd-grade Curriculum
Literacy
- Language is used to reflect, communicate information and ideas in a variety of contexts
- Practice and secure rhyming skills by exploring rhyming patterns and generating rhyming groups
- Practice and secure ability to hear initial and final phonemes in consonant and vowel words to recognition letters
- Introduction of language through songs and action rhymes
- Simple greetings and phrases
- Vocabulary introduction and development
- Spell words with 's' at the end for a plural
- Learn new words from shared and individual reading experiences
- Learn the meaning of 'vowel' and 'consonant'
Writing
- Use a comfortable and efficient pencil grip
- Pre-writing, pre-reading skills, and inventive spelling
- Write on the line and letters using the correct sequence of movements
- Letter formation and writing own name
- Drawing the pictures to tell stories and record events
Mathematics
- Counting through concrete use of numbers to recognition and formation
